How to Talk to Non Muslim Visitors on Muslim Blogs

Salam yo,

I’m disappointing I actually had to write a post about this topic but I’m starting to see a trend emerge from the attitude some Muslims give to Non Muslim visitors on Muslim blogs, I’ve noticed this first hand just observing dialogue on my blog watchyourmouth.png

Now what it needs to be addressed is the behavior of some ignorant Muslims, not “all” but “some”, just to make things clear. Their are definitely ignorant Non Muslims who come and hate also, but we’re the ones who are supposed to be setting the positive example, right? right?

The easiest thing to do in life is to get angry, let’s face it but whenever we get filled with anger we have the potential to change not only ourselves for the better but how we represent Islam. For every action there is a reaction.

No doubt words and speech are powerful, in a hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Umar ” Two men came from the East and addressed the people who wondered at their eloquent speeches, on that the messenger of Allah said “Indeed, in eloquent speech there is magic”.

So speech has two faces, you can use it for negative or positive purposes.

Now if your a Muslim and you like commenting on blogs in general, just be aware of some things:

  1.  The first thing a person judges you by is your manners. More specifically your manners in talking, not by what you claim to be or religion you represent.
  2. Alot of times a Non Muslim will come to a Muslim blog and try to seek some knowledge just about the existence of God or post a challenging question, it may be controversial.
  3. Now if you automatically assume the person hates Islam, then your obviously going to get heated up, but remember this is your chance to win people over to your side
  4. Give proof and be intelligent! Don’t get all emotional and pissed off, this will prevent you from concentrating and speaking with wisdom.

I’m going to point out two ayahs from the Qur’an, insh’Allah we can all reflect upon these verses.

“And be moderate in thy pace, and lower thy voice; for the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of the ass.” (Surah Luqman 31:19)

“Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knows best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.” (An-Nahl: 12)

There you have it, spread the knowledge =).

Note: If your a hater and your coming to Muslim blogs with the intention to cause problems, especially if you aren’t open minded to educational and productive discussions then please just bounce.

Grow the beard! How to Give Dawah and Not Scare Muslims Away

A while ago when I first started this blog, I wrote a post about why growing the Beard for a brother and wearing the Hijab for a sister is beneficial. _beardfont.jpg

I provided some proof and like every post, I was faced with criticism. To me it is what it is, if something is clear in the Qur’an and Sunnah then we should follow it. Haters? uhh well they are always going to come.

However on the other end of the spectrum, we have a problem with many Muslims today, who have a weird way of spreading Islam and encouraging people to follow the Sunnah and the commandments of Allah (swt).

To me it’s so backwards, I often see brothers with this failed method of giving daw’ah. What I’ve come to notice is some brothers and sisters only focus on appearance when it comes to Islam. So if they don’t see a brother with a beard or a sister wearing Hijab, all of a sudden that person is eliminated from their interpretation of “believers”.

Now what begins to happen is people become arrogant because all of a sudden they feel like they are too religious to give attention to a particular person or spend time with them.

Not only do they look at you like your an alien, but all of a sudden your not being invited to Islamic events or offered to pray salat in congregation just because you don’t look “religious”.

The other day we were getting ready to pray Salat, and the brothers were looking around to see who leads. One brother grabbed me and “said you lead you have a beard”. Since when did that become the criteria for leading the salat? Chill yo.

Go Memorize the 99 Names of Allah

Own PhotographImage via Wikipedia

Today is 9/9/09, now go memorize the 99 names of Allah =)! It was the first thought that came to my mind when I thinking about the date, so I put it up as my facebook status.

So why should you memorize the 99 names of Allah (swt)?

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

إِنَّ لِلَّهِ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ اسْمًا مِائَةً إِلاّ وَاحِدًا مَنْ أَحْصَاهَا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ .

Translation: Indeed, Allah has 99 names (one hundred minus one); whoever memorizes them will enter Jannah. [Saheeh Bukhari and Saheeh Muslim]

Jazaks to www.ilmfruits.com for sharing this.

insh’Allah I’m going to start memorizing them, time to empty out the rest of the junk sitting in our memory like celebrity names and people that won’t ever effect our life’s.

Also feel free to download this beneficial PDF by Qabeelat Nurayn on the names/attributes of Allah (swt)

The great Scholar of Islam Al-Hassan Al-Basri said:

The test of Adam, peace be upon him, was food and it is your test until Qiyama. And, it used to be said: Whoever takes control of his stomach gets control of all good deeds. And: Wisdom does not reside in a full stomach. One day, Al-Hassan offered some food to his companion who said: I have eaten until I am no longer able to eat. To which Al-Hassan said: Subhaana Allah! Does a Muslim eat until he is no longer able to eat?

In the time of the Prophet Muhammad, A fat man walked by him with a big belly, stomach, however you want to say it and it was hanging, our Prophet said ” that stomach could have been on someone else”. Meaning that the amount of intake of food this guy was consuming he could have shared it with another person or “PERSONS”.

Here are some articles I wrote before, enjoy!

Keep Smiling, It’s Sunnah!

Why are you grilling me like that?

I didn’t do anything bad to you.  Smile, It’s a charity and it’s free! But make sure you use the miswak or brush your teeth 3x a day, ha.

Anyhow, alot of Muslims often look at you like you stole something, so here is a Hadith we should all reflect on.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Charity is prescribed for each descendant of Adam every day the sun rises.” He was then asked: “From what do we give charity every day?” The Prophet answered: “The doors of goodness are many…enjoining good, forbidding evil, removing harm from the road, listening to the deaf, leading the blind, guiding one to the object of his need, hurrying with the strength of one’s legs to one in sorrow who is asking for help, and supporting the feeble with the strength of one’s arms–all of these are charity prescribed for you.” He also said: “Your smile for your brother is charity.” - Fiqh-us-Sunnah, Volume 3, Number 98

Their are also health benefits to smiling (courtesy of about.com)

 1. Smiling Makes us Attractive

We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good. Frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away — but a smile draws them in.

2. Smiling Changes our Mood

Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile. There’s a good chance you mood will change for the better. Smiling can trick the body into helping you change your mood.

3. Smiling is contagious

When someone is smiling they lighten up the room, change the moods of others, and make things happier. A smiling person brings happiness with them. Smile lots and you will draw people to you.

4. Smiling Relieves Stress

Stress can really show up in our faces. Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down, and overwhelmed. When you are stressed, take time to put on a smile. The stress should be reduced and you’ll be better able to take action.

5. Smiling Boosts Your Immune System.

Smiling helps the immune system to work better. When you smile, immune function improves possibly because you are more relaxed. Prevent the flu and colds by smiling.

So next time you get the chance….

Not the shatan smile like this though….Astaghfirullah!

I end with one last hadith, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Do not abuse anyone…Do not look down upon any good work, and when you speak to your brother, show him a cheerful face.”  (Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1889)
