Kentucky Fried Chicken Opens First Halal Restaurant in New York City! Where? Brooklyn.

Salam yo, halal kentucky fried chicken opens in NYC brooklyn

It’s about time the finger licken chicken came to NYC! I made a special request in my last article for halal franchises including KFC, hoping they would come to the big apple, and yea I guess my prayers got answered, ha.

Alhumdulilah it came to Brooklyn first, the best city in the world. Right? Right?

I always argued one of the reasons many Muslims don’t eat halal is because of availability, but that’s changing now. So no more excuses, you are what you eat.

More and more companys are appealing to the Muslim market and we are starting to see a trend emerge.

Where is this Halal KFC located?

208 McGuinness Boulevard, Brooklyn, NY 11222

I called the restaurant up personally since it wasn’t verified on Zabihah.com yet, and the brother who’s father owns the restaurant told me the Fried chicken and Kentucky grilled chicken is Halal, however none of the sandwiches are.

Here is the # if any of you want to call personally - 1718-383-6666

He told me there will be another location opening up in Manhattan soon insh’Allah.

I can definitely feel the wave coming now, we’re going to start seeing domino’s, popeyes, pizza hut, burger king, mcdonalds go halal.

They aren’t going to have a choice if they want to keep up, since KFC has already introduced a halal menu.

I bet Colonel Sanders never thought his franchise would be marketing to Muslims.

Leave one third of your stomach empty, Enjoy =)

[Update] Kentucky Fried Chicken Halal Menu in London Not Officially Halal?

KFC

Salam,

Although Kentucky Fried Chicken officially said some of their outlets in London have introduced a Halal Menu, there seems to be some uncertainty. Read the last post here

According to the brother who commented on this post, the menu isn’t halal according to standards by the Halal Monitoring Committee.

I don’t live in London so I don’t know how legit this is, but anyone who cares should look into this.

Their seems to be a big difference in the methods of slaughtering according to HMC and HFA.

According to HMC, HFA doesn’t follow Islamic guidelines. That’s weird because on the HFA company website, they state they are strictly halal and follow Islamic guidelines, read here

So what’s the deal? Do your research, drop your feedback insh’Allah.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Launches Halal Menu

KFC

[UPDATE]: KFC halal menu in London not officially halal?

Salam,

Mash’allah, seems like more and more franchises are starting to cater to the emerging Muslim market in the U.K.

More halal means less options for Haraam yo, well that’s the way I see it. You are what you eat!

Anyways, as a trial, KFC just rolled out a halal menu in 8 stores and banned pork since many Muslims were requesting it.

If your from the U.K. or near Leyton, here are directions to the Halal KFC.

Peep the article below

FAST-FOOD giant Kentucky Fried Chicken is to launch one its first stores offering a strictly halal menu in Leyton.

The Lea Bridge Road branch is one of eight stores nationwide to be part of a trial to sell only meat that has been prepared in the way in accordance with Islamic tradition and to ban pork entirely from the menu.

The stores have been selected where there is a large Muslim community and will have signs on entry confirming that they have been fully approved by the Halal Food Authority.

To make meat halal, the live animal has to have its throat cut by a Muslim who is reciting a dedication. The carcass must then be hung to allow the blood to drain out of it.

KFC vice president, marketing, Jennelle Tilling said: “For some time we have had requests to provide halal food in parts of the UK. As a result, we are running a halal trial in eight stores in London.

“We want to see how customers respond to the trial, to see if this is something that allows us to make our great tasting food available to a broader range of customers.”

President of the Halal Food Authority Masood Khawaja said: “The Muslim community can now enjoy all the products in this trial in eight participating halal-approved restaurants, as these have been procured with full adherence to both Islamic dietary rules and relevant EU hygiene, food safety and animal welfare regulations.”

In February, Dominos Pizza launched its first menu on halal-only meat and no pork at a branch in Hall Green, Birmingham, which serves an area with a large Muslim population.

A Domino’s spokeswoman said it had no plans to do a halal menu in Waltham Forest, but it is something it might consider in the future.

A spokesman for McDonalds, which trialed a halal-only menu in a Southall restaurant, also said it had no current plans to offer halal food in the borough.

However, there are many independent fast-food outlets in the borough selling halal-only food.

The stores that will take part in the trial are Lea Bridge Road in Leyton, Beckton, Edmonton, Hounslow West, Upton Park, Forest Gate, Bethnal Green and Tottenham Hale.

All participating stores have a non-halal store nearby.

Inshallah some of that halal finger lickin chicken comes to New York soon!

Muslim Who Won’t Sell Pork Loses Dunkin’ Donuts Franchise

Dunkin' Donuts

Salam,

Source: chicagobreakingnews.com

An Arab-American owner of a Chicago-area Dunkin’ Donuts store has to give up his franchise after he lost his long-running legal battle with the restaurant chain over his religious objections to selling pork products.

A lawyer for Walid Elkhatib said Tuesday his client is in the process of removing Dunkin’ Donuts signs from his Westchester outlet, but apparently not fast enough for the company.

Dunkin’ Donuts went to federal court in Chicago on March 27 to stop Elkhatib, 59, from using the company’s trademarks and other proprietary materials.

The company’s lawsuit came two weeks after a federal jury found that the chain did not discriminate against Elkhatib for refusing to renew his franchise agreement because he declined to sell breakfast sandwiches with bacon, ham or sausage.

The dietary restrictions of Elkhatib’s Muslim faith forbid him from eating or handling pork. When he decided to go into the restaurant business, his faith one of the reasons why he invested in Dunkin’ Donuts in 1979. The chain did not introduce breakfast sandwiches until 1984.

For nearly 20 years, Dunkin’ Donuts accommodated his religious beliefs, even providing him signs for his store that said, “No meat products available,” Elkhatib asserted in court documents. But in 2002, the company reversed course and told him it would not renew his franchise agreement if he did not sell its full line of products.

Elkhatib sued the company but because he is not an employee of Dunkin’ Donuts, he could not sue under federal laws banning religious discrimination in the work place. Instead, he invoked a law that bars racial and certain forms of ancestry discrimination in the making of contracts.

A Chicago federal judge rejected Elkhatib’s claim, finding that it was a religious rather than a racial claim. But in 2007 an appellate court allowed the case to go to trial, finding that Dunkin’ Donuts did not consistently apply its rules on franchise holders. In fact, Elkhatib’s lawyer found a Chicago location that did not sell breakfast sandwiches with pork because many of the customers followed Jewish dietary laws that ban the consumption of pork products.

Elkhatib’s franchise agreement expired in April 2008, but Dunkin’ Donuts allowed him to keep operating the store until the end of the trial.

After the four-day trial ended March 13 in favor of Dunkin’ Donuts, Elkhatib continued to use its trademarks although his franchise agreement had expired, the company said in its suit. Elkhatib also has not returned company operating manuals and other materials despite repeated request, the company said.

Elkhatib’s lawyer, Robert Habib, said his client will end his association with Dunkin’ Donuts, but he has a 10-year lease on the property and owns the equipment.

“He plans to continue to operate a restaurant,” Habib said. “Walid will survive.”

It’s time we start producing our own halal franchises!
